UK Design Forum 2003: Report and Presentations

University of Manchester Chancellors Conference Centre

March 31st and April 1st 2003

Chairman: Jim Heaton

Secretary and Local Organiser: Hilary Kahn

The UK Design Forum 2003 was attended by 49 people. This year two invited speakers provided contrasting presentations. John Vernon took From Valves to VLSI as his theme and provided an amusing after-dinner reminder of the challenges we face in design. First thing the next morning, Bill Eccleston gave a fascinating overview of polymer electronics - a topic which seems to involve more chemistry than most designers can recall.

The Grand Challenge topic was the cause of much discussion, scheduled and unscheduled throughout the Workshop.

The goal of the Grand Challenge is to provide the focus for leading edge, innovative electronic design research involving academia and industry.

If you are interested in finding out more about this, feel free to contact Hilary Kahn, Steve Beaumont, John Gaitanos, David Rees or Julie Stockwin.

Note: Copies of the slides and posters are available in PDF
